We’ve found the block, and now it’s time for the DIY build to begin.

As first time owner builders it’s not going to be easy, there are sure to be some struggles and some arguments, some laughs, sweat and tears.

But at the end of the day, it’ll all be worth it…when we can finally call that block a home!

PROJECT 2 - Retaining Wall

Once the house site was dug in, the retaining wall was erected.

Tim decided to use ironbark timber posts and rails to contruct the wall. Most commonly railway sleepers or treated pine are used for retaining purposes, but given the modern perspective we were intenting to create, the red colouring and smoothed edge of this timber worked well. A retaining wall is essentially used to "retain"the earth, given this house pad was "dug in," in this circumstance, it also avoided having to create a steep batter or slope.

The holes were dug by bobcat in under a day - the entire project spanning around 4 days in total.
