We’ve found the block, and now it’s time for the DIY build to begin.

As first time owner builders it’s not going to be easy, there are sure to be some struggles and some arguments, some laughs, sweat and tears.

But at the end of the day, it’ll all be worth it…when we can finally call that block a home!

SHOPPING TRIP 2

On our way to Bunnings - not looking for anything in particular, but generally it's on these trips you end up finding exactly what you're looking for...without even knowing you needed it!

On our way through Bunnings we did see small fire pits in the outdoor department -
(Note to Self ... small inbuilt fire pit, probably a good idea for an outdoor area!)

SHOPPING TRIP 1

At this stage wet weather is putting a pause on progress out at the block - so instead we go shopping! Hitting up the furniture seconds and antique store for any good finds.

Although we havn't yet got 4 walls to furnish, there's no harm in getting a head start on these things.

PROJECT 2 - Retaining Wall

Once the house site was dug in, the retaining wall was erected.

Project 1 complete - beautiful driveway achieved...time to take a well earned break.

Progress on the block took a back seat to an upcoming wedding and Fiji honeymoon.

At least we knew that once the wedding was over, and we returned from our O.S trip, there was still something to look forward to - building our dream home!

If we thought the driveway was hard - we had another thing coming.

PROJECT 1 - Driveway

The Driveway was first on the agenda...who would have thought that deciding where to put a bend would be so hard.

As the first project on the block, the driveway was always going to be the easiest. Thankfully Tim's family is in the earthmoving industry - so our budget wasn't broken by this one.

Once complete - the view from the top is looking pretty good.

DESIGN

So we were at the design stage – we were wanting to achieve a modern perspective – a modular type home with three separate pods. This is where the local team at Designs@m made our vision come to life, presenting us with an end product we couldn’t have been happier with.

PROPERTY EXCHANGED

And so it started…July 2010, this was when I made the decision to follow my fiancĂ© back to his home town of Orange, NSW. Moving to Orange was far from a dream come true for me, and the months that followed did nothing to change that. Tim renovated an old barn on his parents’ farm for us to live in – a temporary living situation – so temporary that two years later we still call it home. Whilst we still live in that same barn, the things that we’ve seen, places we’ve been, and how we’ve both grown in-between has made that move one of the best.

From the time we moved we began to look for a potential home – was it best to renovate or build?

Well, as this page suggests – build it was! On a small- but tidy 5 acres, 10 minutes out of Orange.

On the 13th September 2011 the property was exchanged – and the planning began.
